The Business Coaching Reference You Actually Need

This isn't a sales pitch disguised as a website. It's a reference library built for business owners who want to understand coaching frameworks, terminology, and decision pathways before committing to anything. Browse the glossary, study the frameworks, and reach out only when you're ready.

Business coaching in Australia has evolved beyond motivational talks and generic advice. Modern coaching is framework-driven, evidence-informed, and built around measurable business outcomes. Whether you're a sole trader in Queensland navigating your first hire or a mid-market operator restructuring for scale, the language and tools of coaching matter.

At Proven Biz Strategies, we've built this hub so you can self-educate before, during, or after a coaching engagement. Every term below links to a real methodology or coaching concept we use with clients at 42 Lewis Way, Leemouth.

"I spent three weeks reading their glossary before I even called. By the time we started coaching, I already understood the frameworks and we hit the ground running." — D. Marchetti, Brisbane retail operator

Business Coaching Glossary

Core terms we use in every engagement. Hover to explore definitions and tags.

Revenue Architecture

The structural design of how a business generates, captures, and retains income across channels. Goes beyond a revenue model to include pricing psychology, channel mix, and margin engineering.

Strategy

Accountability Cadence

A rhythmic schedule of check-ins — weekly, fortnightly, or monthly — designed to maintain momentum between coaching sessions. Not just meetings; structured progress audits.

Process

Constraint Mapping

Identifying the single biggest bottleneck limiting growth at any given time. Drawn from the Theory of Constraints. We map it visually and attack it systematically.

Diagnostic

Owner Dependency Index

A proprietary score measuring how much a business relies on its founder for daily operations. High ODI means fragile. We work to reduce it below 30% within six months.

Measurement

Profit Lever Analysis

Decomposing profit into its five core levers — leads, conversion, average sale, frequency, and margin — then identifying which lever yields the fastest return when adjusted.

Financial

Strategic Horizon

The time frame a business owner is optimising for. We distinguish between 90-day sprints, annual arcs, and three-year transformation windows. Each requires different coaching tools.

Planning

Delegation Readiness

An assessment of whether a business has the systems, documentation, and team capability to transfer tasks from the owner. Premature delegation is as dangerous as none at all.

Operations

Value Proposition Stress Test

A structured exercise where we challenge your current offer from the customer's perspective. If it doesn't survive five objections, it needs rework before you spend on marketing.

Marketing

Exit Velocity Planning

Coaching focused on building a business that can be sold, handed over, or scaled without the founder. Not just exit strategy — it's about building transferable value from day one.

Long-term

Coaching Framework Matrix

Not every framework fits every business. Use this matrix to understand which tools apply to your situation and expected impact.

Framework Best For Typical Duration Impact Level
90-Day Sprint Businesses needing rapid change — new launches, turnarounds, or pivots. Compressed accountability with weekly check-ins. 3 months
Profit Lever Deep Dive Established businesses with revenue but margin pressure. We isolate the two highest-yield levers and build action plans around them. 6 weeks
Owner Liberation Program Founders working 60+ hours who want to step back. Systematic delegation, documentation, and team empowerment. 6–9 months
Strategic Planning Intensive Annual or bi-annual deep planning sessions. Full-day workshops with documented strategic roadmap output. 1–2 days
Sales System Build Businesses relying on the owner for all selling. We build a repeatable, documented sales process that others can execute. 8 weeks
Exit Readiness Audit Owners considering sale, succession, or retirement within 2–5 years. Valuation gap analysis and transferability scoring. 4 weeks + ongoing

"The framework matrix alone saved me from choosing the wrong coaching program. I needed the Profit Lever approach, not a generic 12-month engagement."
— K. Naidoo, Gold Coast services company, 2024

Decision Checklist

  1. Can you articulate your biggest constraint?
  2. Do you know your Owner Dependency Index?
  3. Have you mapped your profit levers?
  4. Is your strategic horizon defined?
  5. Do you have documented systems?
  6. Can your team sell without you?

When Is Coaching the Right Move?

Not every business needs a coach. Some need an accountant. Some need a therapist. Some need to fire a client. Coaching is specifically valuable when you have a viable business but lack the frameworks, accountability, or outside perspective to break through a plateau.

If you answered "no" to three or more items on the checklist, coaching will likely produce measurable ROI within the first quarter. If you answered "yes" to most, you may benefit more from a one-off strategic planning intensive than an ongoing engagement.

Case in point: A Leemouth-based trades business came to us scoring 1 out of 6 on this checklist. Within five months of the Owner Liberation Program, they scored 5 out of 6 and the founder took a three-week holiday — the first in eleven years.

We don't sell coaching to people who don't need it. This decision guide exists so you can self-assess honestly. If you're unsure, call us at +61 488 678 992 for a 15-minute diagnostic conversation — no charge, no pitch.

By the Numbers We've coached 63 businesses across Queensland since 2019. Average engagement length is 4.2 months. Repeat engagement rate sits at 41% — meaning most clients get what they need the first time.

Working Principles

No long-term lock-ins. Every coaching engagement is month-to-month after the initial commitment period. If it's not working, you leave. We don't need contracts to retain clients — results do that.

Frameworks over feelings. We use structured, documented methodologies. You'll always know what phase you're in, what the next milestone is, and how progress is being measured.

Owner-operator focus. We don't coach corporations. We coach the humans who run businesses — with all the complexity, emotion, and pressure that entails.

Knowledge Base — Common Questions

Answers drawn from our coaching practice, not from a template.

Consulting gives you the answer. Coaching builds your capacity to find and implement answers yourself. We lean coaching-heavy but will consult directly when you need specialist input — pricing strategy, sales system design, or operational restructuring. The blend depends on your situation.
Start with the Decision Checklist above. If your primary issue is time and burnout, the Owner Liberation Program is likely right. If it's revenue or margin, start with the Profit Lever Deep Dive. If you're unsure, the diagnostic call exists specifically to help you choose. We've never had a client start the wrong program because we take framework selection seriously.
Yes, though most of our clients are Queensland-based. We conduct coaching via video call for interstate clients. The frameworks are location-independent. Our in-person intensive workshops happen at our Leemouth office, and interstate clients occasionally fly in for those.
Sessions run 60–75 minutes. The first 15 minutes review progress against last session's commitments. The middle 30–40 minutes focus on one strategic topic — a constraint, a decision, a system build. The final 10 minutes set specific, measurable actions for the next period. Every session is documented and shared within 24 hours.
Then use this knowledge hub. Read the glossary, study the frameworks, and revisit the decision checklist every quarter. When three or more items flip to "no," that's your signal. We'd rather you come prepared than come prematurely. This page will still be here.
